A Holistic Approach To Facial Care

Buccal Massage

Buccal massage offers a holistic approach to facial care. In addition to the physical benefits, buccal massage can also have a positive impact on mental well-being. The relaxation and stress relief achieved through this massage technique can help individuals feel rejuvenated, improve mood, and promote a sense of overall well-being. Buccal massage is a massage treatment that targets the facial muscles both internally and externally. Joelle Ciocco created and developed the buccal massage in the 1980’s as a technique that works to stretch the muscles of the face. She believed that treating skin for anti-aging should come from both externally and internally.

Incorporating buccal massage into a regular self-care routine can also enhance one's skincare regimen. This technique improves circulation and by stimulating blood flow, buccal massage can enhance the skin's appearance and overall health. This technique improves lymphatic drainage which aids in draining excess fluid, reducing puffiness and promoting a more toned complexion. By promoting circulation and lymphatic drainage, buccal massage can also improve the absorption of skincare products, boosting their effectiveness. Buccal massage targets facial muscles to release tension and stress; promoting relaxation. Additionally, the relaxation provided by buccal massage can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, contributing to a more youthful and radiant complexion.

Beyond skincare it impacts the overall facial muscle tone and appearance. By targeting specific facial muscles, buccal massage can help sculpt and define the contours of the face, contributing to a more youthful and lifted look. This natural approach to facial rejuvenation not only enhances the skin's health and radiance but also promotes a more toned and sculpted facial profile, making buccal massage a versatile and beneficial practice for both physical and aesthetic well-being.

What Is a Buccal Massage?

1.     A buccal massage focuses on the muscles and tissues around the buccal fat pad.

2.     It is an intraoral massage, meaning that the service professional massages the inside of the client’s mouth with gloved hands.

3.     By working intraorally, the massage accesses the facial muscles from a different angle, allowing for more noticeable results.

4.     The goal is to release tightness in the facial muscles surrounding the buccal fat pad and manually drain lymphatic fluid reducing          puffiness and detoxifying the skin.

5.      As a result, it temporarily creates a more contoured and chiseled appearance while potentially decreasing the need for surgery or fillers.

6.      The massage helps smooth out the muscles and relax tension, contributing to a sculpted look.

What are the Benefits of Buccal Massage?

1.             Enhanced definition between the cheekbones and jawline.

2.             A more lifted and sculpted appearance.

3.             Relaxation of the facial muscles.

4.             Improved blood circulation which improves the function of facial muscles and results in decreased sagging.

5.             Skin that appears brighter and more “awake”.

6.             Reduced pain related to temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) and tension headaches.

7.             Relief from sinusitis.

8.             Emotional stress relief.

B2 combined modality treatment

Buccal Massage can be a standalone treatment or can be done with a facial. For patients suffering from the symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) New Beginnings Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery offers their B2 combined modality treatment.

What is B2 combined modality treatment?

B2 is a revolutionary treatment to help relieve the symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). This treatment combines the 2 modalities of buccal massage and BoTox injection. This buccal massage specifically targets and is designed to relax the masseter muscle. This in turn relieves the tension being exerted on the temporal mandibular joint. The second component of the treatment is the injection of BoTox into the masseter muscle. The purpose of this is to partially paralyze the masseter muscle which again will relax the masseter muscle.

What are common signs and symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD)?

1.        Pain in the temporomandibular joint.

2.        Pain in the ear or around the ear not associated with an ear infection.

3.        Pain or difficulty with mastication (chewing)

4.        Clicking within or locking of the temporomandibular joint.

Bruxism is the medial term used to delineate the clenching or grinding of teeth patients can experience. Our B2 treatment can help treat your Bruxism!

How is B2 performed?

1.        Masseter targeted buccal massage is performed by Abby, our esthetician, in a relaxing environment.

2.        On the same day BoTox is administered into the masseter muscle by Dr. Silverman.

3.        BoTox will be administered every 3-4 months.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for B2?

1.        Patients suffering from Bruxism.

2.        Patients suffering from temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD).

How many Buccal Massages are recommended for TMD?

1.    We recommend six treatments for the buccal massage portion of this treatment. Once a week and after three weeks switching to once a month.
