  • Can you breastfeed after breast surgery?

Patients can breastfeed after breast reduction and breast augmentation. Patients can not breastfeed after mastectomy. For more information, reach out to our plastic surgeons.

  • How long after abdominoplasty surgery can I go back to work?

This depends on the type of work you do. Most people are back to their job within 10 days. If the job entails heavy lifting then this time period may be extended. Our best plastic surgeons will ensure you know what to expect based on your specific procedure and career.

  • How long is the recovery time?

Recovery time depends on the surgical procedure you have had. We usually tell patients that incisions are about 60% strong at three weeks. According to Forbes, around 11.36 million plastic surgery procedures were carried out around the world in 2019. As top plastic surgeons, we will help you recover from your procedure as well and as quickly as possible.

  • When can I drive after surgery?

If you are taking narcotics, you should not be driving as this is driving under the influence. If you are not taking pain medications but are still having pain, then you need to use your discretion of whether or not it is safe to drive. Our best plastic surgeons can also give you advice based on your procedure and expected recovery timeline.

  • What does it mean for a surgeon to be board certified?

A board certified physician is someone who has gone through extensive training in their specific field. They then must first pass a written exam and then an oral exam administered by experts in their field. The purpose is to ensure the high standard of education and medical ethics within a field of specialty. There is no board certification for cosmetic surgery. At New Beginnings Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, our plastic surgeons are board certified.

  • Will my medical insurance cover my cosmetic procedure?

Medical insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures by plastic surgeons.

  • Why do I need to quit smoking before surgery?

Smoking is harmful to your body in many ways, so just this is a reason to stop smoking. Specifically, as it relates to surgery, the nicotine in cigarettes causes vasoconstriction (blood vessels get smaller) and decreases the blood supply to surgical areas that need nutrients and oxygen to heal. As top plastic surgeons, we recommend quitting smoking to ensure you heal well after your procedure.

  • When can I resume having sex after an abdominoplasty?

Most patients can typically resume having sex 7-10 days after an abdominoplasty. For more information, contact our plastic surgeons.

  • What is the difference between a cosmetic surgeon and plastic surgeon?

A plastic surgeon is a physician that has been trained at an accredited plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program. Then that physician must pass their board exam to become a board certified plastic surgeon. Any physician can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon. There is no board exam to become a cosmetic surgeon. As some of the best plastic surgeons in the area, we are board certified.

  • Can I have liposuction if I am not done having children?

Yes, you can have liposuction. You probably should not have an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Our plastic surgeons can give you more information on cosmetic procedures and pregnancy.
